Reinforcements for Dragonmeet 2014

I shall be running the last official MIB Ogre miniatures event at Dragonmeet, which has moved to Earls Court this year.  Those eagle-eyed and otherwise astute players and readers of this blog will no doubt be wondering why I'm showing off more Pan European Federation forces, given how many I already have painted to plunk down on the tabletop versus the rather thin selection of conventional North American Combine units?

Well excuse number one is Ogres: Doppelsoldner, Fencer, and Mark 2 & 3 Ogres.  Excuse number two, there is no excuse number two, see number one.

However, I have to get the North American Combine forces finished before the 6th of December, because I really don't want to be running a game with unvarnished models again.  So I transferred my NAC force from the painting tray onto the painting table this afternoon, which I couldn't do before because the table was occupied with my Pan Euro miniatures.

No small matter considering there are 60 conventional units and three Ogres sitting waiting for me to start.  Nearly double the amount of miniatures than in the above picture.  So the pressure is now on me to get my finger out and finish painting them.  Will I get them done in time?  Keep checking back to see, and cheering me on will also help

In addition, I've also been researching and working on an article for Miniature Wargames & Battlegames for my Escalation scenario, which I plan to support with rules for force morale and Tables of Organization and Equipment for the scenario ORBATs.  Justified I may add by the fact that I can use the ORBATs for a future novel about cybertank warfare and the end of the old world order.

  1. Can't go wrong with a Dopp, unless the alternative was two Dopps.

    Looking good!

    1. Unfortunately, I only have another Fencer to make up and paint at some point, but the good news is that in addition to the Mark 3 and Mark 2 Ogres I have acquired another Mark 5 and Mark 3 to add to my Pan Euro force. We can now all sing this:

  2. I really like the camo pattern. Do you do it freehand or do you use stencils?

    1. All done freehand. I'm a bit of a cammo nut, in that I like camo and have done a bit of research into the principles and practice of real world camo, which I then twist around to create patterns suitable for SF models.

  3. Kudos! They look suitably scifi yet real world. I'm not sure about the effects of camo though on something the size of an ogre, though. "Hey Jim, is that mountain over there moving?" :)

  4. I just dropped about $300 at SJG on minis, and would have spent double that amount if they had the SHVY, MSL, etc I wanted. Since I do casting myself, I know what they are up against; but seriously, casting while hard work, is akin to printing money as long as you have buyers. If they have the molds, then they should make castings to sell, even as singles. Harumph. Jeff (Mack_JB elsewhere).

    1. I agree. Even short pre-order runs every 6 months to keep the line alive would have been something. Still, it means I can use other manufacturers miniatures as proxies, and as you can tell from this blog, I'm up for making my own Ogres too.
