Bad Dog

I've made the decision that I'm too old to waste any more of my life waiting for replies from traditional publishing houses about my novel.  It has been two years, with one reply back, which was promising but, as they say, close but no cigar.  The thought of waiting another two years to not hear back from editors who requested to see my work, or getting a nice rejection, because no one understands how to sell my work, is not on.

So, I have a choice.  Give up or self-publish.

The answer is, never give up, never surrender.

This picture is by the talented artist Elartwyne Estole whose work can be seen here.  I asked him to do a cover, and he came up with this sketch, which I think is awesome.  The current plan is to have Bad Dog out by January the first 2018.

We shall see how the plan survives contact with reality in due course.

  1. Do or do not do. There is no try. Or edit, re-edit, re-edit, re-edit etc like me. :)

    1. Write, edit, but whatever you do, finish what you write.

    1. All my expectations! Uhmmm... that might be hard, but get a book out, get the two sequels out. That's achievable.

  3. I am looking forward to its release. Are you publishing via Amazon? It is a breeze to do so. the tough part is the marketing. I have some sites that may prove helpful if you are interested. Chris Fox has several books out on launching your novel that are excellent. This is one of my favorites. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FE5C9EA/ He offers some practical advice rather than theoretical. It is hard to implement but he is successful and knows what he is talking about.

The only suggestion I have for Amazon is make the paperback option through their beta program rather than CreateSpace. I was able to have a lower priced paperback through them even though they are part of the same company. Having the paperback ready at launch will make your book feel more real and you can order proof copies fairly cheaply. Then you can use those for gifts for those that helped you (beta readers and the like).

Good Luck. Looking forward to your launch.

    1. Given the changing nature of publishing it's the way to go. And I do hope you enjoy reading it, but whatever, please leave a review because that will help.

    1. Beyond my means at this time, so unless Audible.com pick me up its not a realistic option.

Of course if I sell thousands of copies then this would change.
