Ogre Miniatures Last Castings
These arrived this week. These are the last run of castings from SJG that I ordered back in April. The decision to stop offering Ogre miniatures, now that Ogre is back on the market, boggles my mind. I'm aware of the financial aspects that Phil Reed has stated SJG must operate under; I'm fully cognizant of what he implied, but the current position taken seems to have be taken to spite the fans of the game.
Colour me cross.
Anyway, I got the above, and have ended up with three Vulcan drones, but no Vulcan. Nothing to do with SJG, but down to someone who backed out of a deal to buy his Vulcan off him after the window to order from SJG had closed.
Colour me less than pleased. Not so much angry, but incandescent with rage.
I'm with you. I understand the economic decision they made, but somehow other companies manage to keep lines of miniatures alive for years with small production runs.
ReplyDeleteI tend to think it all comes down to "If it's not Munchkin, it's not worth sinking a lot of time/effort into."
If I had the resources, I'd buy the whole Ogre line from SJG, lock stock and barrel. It almost seems like an annoyance to the company at this point that there are still loyal fans demanding support for the game.
Rumour is that someone tried to do this, as in license the range, but the answer was "it is Steve's baby."
DeleteI can understand not doing the vehicles and infantry, but the Ogres are iconic, there are no substitute models to proxy them with.
There is a huge lot being advertised on frothers at the moment :)

I saw him post that on eBay, which got a bid, but for some reason the bidder backed out. While I could buy on the Mark 5, what I really want is a Vulcan and one drone, a Combine Laser Tower and turret, some more Pan Euro trucks.

ReplyDeleteWhat colour paint would one use for this? A particularly bright red, methinks? If SJG finds it bothersome to support Ogre, I'm surprised, as Mike says, they haven't found a buyer for it. One of the hobby's "mega companies", like Warlord, might be able to make a go of it.
OF COURSE SJ games can't be bothered to make OGRE miniatures (you know, a product people actually want.) They're too busy cranking out Munchkin supplements to be bothered with that!
